Turn Bluetooth Off By Default In Ubuntu

Screenshot from 2013-04-13 16:35:04On my fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04.02 LTS, Bluetooth was always on when I booted up. I wanted to set this to be off at startup and to be able to turn it on when needed. this is how I fixed it:

1. First open rc.local

sudo gedit /etc/rc.local

2. Enter the following command on the line above “exit 0”:

rfkill block bluetooth

3. Restart

(not sure if this will work in later versions of Ubuntu, please let me know in the comments if you have success)

Transmission Blocklist

A while back, the default blocklist was removed from Transmission releases. This is the blocklist I use for Transmission Bittorrent client:

Add it in the blocklist box in Preferences>Privacy

Then click to update (and check the box to automatically update)

This will help to stop people snooping on your bittorrent traffic.
